Mechanical/Propulsion Test Engineer

About the Role

Astra CoreX, Inc. (ACX) is seeking a Mechanical/Propulsion Test Engineer to own the assembly, instrumentation, and testing of propulsion hardware of our launch vehicles. You’ll be responsible for assembling, instrumenting, and testing components, subsystems, and complete vehicles using your technical background and available references under the guidance of subject matter experts in several key areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build propulsion hardware and test articles.
  • Design fixtures, mounts, stands, and launchers.
  • Integrate instrumentation including pressure, temperature, and strain.
  • Support DAQ setup, calibration, and test execution.
  • Write test plans, safety reviews, and reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or another relevant field.
  • 3–10 years of experience testing rocket-powered launch vehicles.
  • Familiarity with solid rocket motors and amateur rocket development.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks or other CAD software.
  • Skilled in machining, metal fabrication, and instrumentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • U.S. citizen with eligibility for government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing or assembling propulsion hardware, test articles, and launch support equipment.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic or pneumatic systems, pressure vessels, and ground support integration.
  • Background in non-destructive inspection, fabrication planning, and test operating procedures.
  • Hands-on experience supporting static fire and launch campaigns with live instrumentation and QA documentation.
